I was born near Perth, Scotland, in 1953. My creative journey began at the Edinburgh School of Art, where I was accepted to study in 1970. At just 17, I realised my interests were leading me in a different direction, and I chose to study Fashion and Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University.
After graduating, I worked as a fashion consultant in London before marrying and raising a family. Although painting remained an important part of my life through portrait commissions and works for friends and family, it wasn't until my children had grown up that I was able to devote myself fully to painting. In 2004, I also completed a Diploma in Interior Design, further broadening my creative background.
More recently, I studied under Scottish artist Robert MacGilvray, former Professor of Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, whose guidance helped me continue to develop my artistic practice.
My work has been exhibited at the Meffan Museum & Art Gallery in Forfar, the Fisher Gallery in Pittenweem, and in exhibitions across south-west France, including Le Rondes des Expos (Simorre), La Maison des Écritures (Lombez), and Le Bouche à Oreille.
Light, colour and reflection are at the heart of my work. I find inspiration everywhere: the glow of streetlights on wet pavements, blue shadows across snow, reflections on water, or the quiet expressions of people lost in their own thoughts. Wherever I go, my camera is close at hand, capturing fleeting moments that later become the starting point for paintings in my studio.
People continue to fascinate me. I enjoy capturing moments that might otherwise go unnoticed, revealing something of the mystery and individuality that exists within everyday life.
Alongside representational work, I also enjoy creating abstract paintings inspired by emotion, memory, texture and the spaces between objects. Each painting is an exploration of colour, atmosphere and the feeling of a place or moment, rather than simply a record of what was seen.
As an artist, I believe that authenticity matters more than trying to please everyone. My aim is to create work that is honest, personal and emotionally resonant, allowing each viewer to discover their own connection with the painting.
